She is already being celebrated as a future royal fashion icon.

So it’s no surprise that speculation is rife over the dress design Kate Middleton is going to choose for her wedding to Prince William next year.

The striking brunette may look for guidance in the form of previous British royal brides, from the Queen herself (pictured) in 1947 to Sophie Windsor (formerly Winkleman) who married Freddie Windsor last year. 

Peter Phillips, the Queen’s eldest grandson married Canadian beauty Autumn Kelly in May, 2008. The bride chose an elegant cream Sassi Holford dress .

Frills and flounce marked the day for Lady Diana, in this iconic Elizabeth Emanuel gown.

Princess Anne’s medieval Tudor-style dress emphasised her tiny waist in 1973 .
